Microsoft Teams - "We can't get your files" Error

Issue:

Client has created a new team and unable to access files.  ("We can't get your files" error)

Environment:

Microsoft Teams desktop application

Windows 10

Resolution:

  1. Sign out of Teams.

  1. Open File Explorer and type "%appdata%\Microsoft\teams" (without quotation marks) into the address bar.

  1. Delete the contents of the directory.  

  2. Open Teams and Sign in.  If files are still not accessible, continue to Step 5.

  3. Switching the Team owner to a member and then back again may resolve the issue.  To do this, add the technician to the Team by going to the team name, clicking "More Options," and then "Add Member."  Enter the technician's name.

  4. Switch the technician to the Team owner by clicking on the team name, clicking "More Options," and then "Manage Team."  You can then switch Member to Owner.

  5. Switch the Client to a Team Member by clicking on the team name, clicking "More Options," and then "Manage Team."  You can then switch Owner to Member.

  6. Client and technician both sign out and close Teams.

  7. Client and technician both open and sign in to Teams.

  8. Repeating Steps 6 and 7, switching the client back to Owner, and the technician back to Member.

  9. Repeat Steps 7 and 8, with client and technician both signing out, closing, and then signing back in to Teams.

  10.  You should now be able to access files by going to the channel and select the Files tab above the conversation window.

  11. Delete the technician as a Team member by clicking on the team name, clicking "More Options," and then "Manage Team."  Under Members, select the X to the far right of the name of the technician.
