Disabling Private Addresses when connecting to Network

Issue:

After upgrading your Mobile device, it has trouble connecting to Eduroam.

Environment:

Apple iOS 14, WatchOS 7 or later, Android 10 or later

Resolution:

Note: This setting is used the next time your device joins the network. If you want to use it immediately, turn Wi-Fi off and back on, then join the network.  Your device will remember this setting for each SSID/Wifi-name unless "Reset Network Settings" or "Forget Network" is used.

Apple iOS 14 iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open Settings -> Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the info button next to a network.
  3. Tap Use Private Address to turn it OFF. If your device joined the network without using a private address, a privacy warning explains why.

Apple watchOS 7 and later

  1. Open Settings -> Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the name of the network you joined. If you haven't joined the network yet, swipe left on its name and tap more .
  3. Tap Private MAC to turn it OFF

  (Apple Support Information)

Android 10 and later

  1. Open Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi (Enable Wi-Fi if necessary)
  2. Tap the gear icon next to the "eduroam" SSID
  3. Select "MAC address type" and then choose "Use device MAC."
