Lockdown Browser Will Not Open: Screencastify Error

Issue:

When I open Lockdown Browser to take a quiz, it says I need to uninstall the Screencastify extension from Chrome, but when I checked, I do not have it. I get the same error no matter what browser I use.

 

Environment:

Google Chrome, MacOS (Mac), Windows (PC)

Resolution:

1.  Open Chrome and go to Menu (three vertical dots) > Settings > Extensions
2.  Click Remove and then confirm by clicking Remove again.

Note:  If there is no Screencastify extension apparent in Chrome, check any alternative Chrome profiles you may have created and remove the extension from there.  If the profile is managed by another institution (e.g., a previous high school) and the extension cannot be removed or turned off, the entire profile must be deleted.

If you are still getting the error and you do not have the Screencastify extension, Chrome will probably need to be fully uninstalled, including any hidden AppData or Library folders. See the Respondus' Knowledge Base Article: Screencastify error for more information.
