Cougar Alert and other Notifications
The College of Charleston has implemented a new technology platform called Everbridge for delivering Cougar Alert emergency notifications to students, faculty, staff, families, neighbors, visitors and others. Please make sure your contact information is correct on MyCharleston.
All students, faculty and staff will be automatically enrolled to continue receiving Cougar Alerts, and no further action is necessary. Students, faculty and staff cannot opt-out of receiving Cougar Alerts emergency notifications.
Everbridge software is an umbrella application that incorporates the alert component, Nixle to deliver a tiered warning system. The three types of notifications are:
-
Cougar Alert – These alerts are reserved for major emergencies or life-threatening situations occurring on or near campus. You may not opt-out of these alerts.
-
Campus Advisory – These advisories are intended to provide information about events or issues on campus that warrant notification but do not impose an immediate danger to health and safety
-
Community Advisory – These advisories are issued for major incidents, crimes or public safety issues occurring off-campus. Examples may include flooding, major structure fires, major crimes and widespread street closures or traffic delays that may impact access to or departure from campus.
All the information above, including additional information and instructions related to Cougar Alert and Everbridge, can be found at emergency.cofc.edu/cougaralert/.
Everbridge
The Everbridge name may already sound familiar to many of you, as the College began using the Everbridge smart phone app in August as part of our campus response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This software also enables us to deliver real-time information about campus events, news and other happenings.
