VoIP Office Phones
The Yealink phones found in employee offices use a VoIP service. Because of this, they can be moved anywhere on campus without IT assistance by simply plugging them into another active Ethernet port in the location you want the phone to reside in. You may still need to contact IT when moving a phone under the following circumstances:
- If you are moving the phone to a different room and/or different building, you should report the move to IT so that we can update the records for 911. If the phone records are not updated, and an emergency call is made from that phone, the paramedics or police officers may not be able to find you. Use the Telephone Service form to report phone moves. Select "Segra Services" and "Update Phone Records for 911" when filling out the form.
- Just because there is a network port in a room doesn't mean that it is active. If you plug your Yealink phone into an inactive port, the phone may not power up, or may boot but display a message of "No Service." If you plug in your phone and it is not working, please submit a Telephone Issue form to report the problem. Be sure to include a complete description of the problem. For example, the phone does not boot up when I plug it in, or the phone displays "No Service" when I plug it in. Include your location and phone number.
Special notes: Did you know that you don't have to have a physical phone in the office? If you have the Segra Unify feature enabled on your phone, you can use the app to receive and make phone calls. The app can be used on your office computer as well as your home computer, so is a great alternative for people who work in multiple locations, or completely remote. More information on Segra Unify here.
Analog Phone Lines
Fax lines, call boxes in the elevators, and alarm lines are all analog numbers. These have to be moved by a state phone technician. There must be an Adtran with availability in place to connect the line to in order to move it. Contact the IT Service Desk to request a move. The IT Service Desk will place a ticket for the state technician, and if there is availability, the state technician can move the phone line.
Do you still need help? Create a support ticket and a Service Desk technician will contact you.
