Installation instructions

Environment:

NVivo is a software program used for qualitative and mixed-methods research. Specifically, it is used to analyze the unstructured text, audio, video, and image data, including (but not limited to) interviews, focus groups, surveys, social media, and journal articles. It is available for both Windows and Macintosh operating system; however, the Macintosh version does not include all of the windows features. (there may be some functions you can access from a Windows computer but not on a Mac)

 

Resolution:

The College of Charleston has licensed NVivo software to support qualitative and mixed-methods research. You are entitled to a copy for either Mac or Windows platform.

 This license covers faculty and students in:

 School of Humanities and Social Sciences:

  • Department of Communication
  • Department of Political Science
  • Department of Sociology and Anthropology
  • Master of Public Administration
  • Master of Science in Environmental & Sustainable Studies

 School of Education, Health, and Human Performance:

  • Department of Teacher Education

How to Access NVivo software

Downloading NVivo

Please use the following links to download Nvivo for your type of computer

If you have trouble with accessing it via the link provided the NVivo installers is also available at the College of Charleston's Appsanywhereportal

Log in and search for NVivo Click Download, Click Download in your browser window

Note This is a direct download only, proceed with the installation instructions.

Installing NVivo

Windows browse to where you save the file and double click the  NVivo.x64.exe file.  Follow the on screen prompts

Mac  browse to where you save the file and double click on the NVivo.dmg file.  Follow the on screen prompts

Licensing NVivo

  1. Contact Katie Monk monkk@cofc.edu or Fanio King kingf@cofc.edu to receive your license (note the College of Charleston service desks will not supply license.)
  2. After you receive your license, start your software.
  3.  On the active NVivo screen, select provide enterprise key to activate.
  4. Enter your license key and accept the license agreement.
  5. Click next.
  6.  Enter the requested information and click activate.
  7. if successful, you will receive a message Your license has now been activated. If unsuccessful, contact NVivo technical support.  Contact NVivo Support. Fill out the form, and a support technician will contact you via email.
  8. Fill out request information and click submit
  9. Enter your Initials and click OK
