VoiceThread: Can't record audio or video comment


Attempted to record a voice comment in VoiceThread but it would not record the audio or receive message stating that you are on a website that does not allow access to your microphone.  When trying with the video comment option it recorded the video but no audio.

VoiceThread won't record my audio or video comment.




  1. CHANGE BROWSERS.  For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, change to Chrome or Firefox.  If it works, then you have a problem in the original browser.  Your web browser should be fully up to date.
    • VoiceThreads is supported in full in:  Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
    • VoiceThreads can be opened and viewed, but audio and video cannot be recorded in the following browsers.  As these browsers evolve to support HTML5, this may change:  Safari and Microsoft Edge.
    • Internet Explorer does not support HTML 5 and therefore cannot be used with VoiceThread.
  2. Check the browser's microphone and webcam settings to make sure the correct input is selected and that VoiceThread has not been locked.
  3. In the browser, make sure COOKIES are ENABLED.

  4. If COOKIES were already ENABLED then, in the browser, make sure to CLEAR your cookies.

  5. Restart your computer.  A simple computer restart can help with some issues, especially if it has been a while since you last restarted or have a lot of applications running.
  6. Settings for your computer.  Make sure that the correct microphone and/or webcam is selected in your computer's sound input settings.  If you can successfully record audio or video in other applications, you can skip this step.
  7. Still not working? Try a DIFFERENT COMPUTER.  If it works then you have a problem on your computer.  Or try another location/Internet connection.
