Change Formatting Mark Settings in Microsoft Word for PC

Issue:

I am seeing formatting marks on my document in Word, and do not know how to turn them off.

Environment:

Microsoft Office 2016/365 for PC

Resolution:

  1. Log onto your machine and open Microsoft Word.
  2. Once the program has loaded, select the option for File from the top toolbar.
  3. From the new left hand menu that appears, choose Options.
  4. When the new Options window launches, select Display from the left hand index of choices.
  5. Under the choice labelled Always show these formatting marks on screen, remove the check mark from the check box for all the options except the last one labelled Show all formatting marks.
  6. Reboot Word to save the preferences. Your document should no longer display any formatting marks.
